Trends I Love - Non-Traditional Tables

Looking for a unique way to seat your guests? Sick of the traditional round banquet tables? Brides these days are getting creative in EVERY aspect of their planning and this includes the type of tables they use. Depending on the size of your guest list and the layout of your venue you can do a couple of different things. For smaller weddings, one long table utilizing both sides would make the dinner feel very intimate and personal.

If you either don't have the space in your venue or just want to break it up a little, consider doing several rectangular guests tables.

Or if you are looking for something very unique and you have ample space to use, check out these serpentine tables. Now wouldn't that get the guests talking! And very memorable as well.

But of course, there is nothing to say you can use a little of everything! I love this look...

Trends I Love - Lovely Linens

I've already said that one thing I would change about my wedding was the photography. If I had to pick something else I would change it would be that we didn't use anything but standard linens, chocolate floor length linens would have looked AMAZING under my centerpieces. If you want your tables to make a statement but don't want to go over board with your centerpieces, use linens. Gorgeous linens make all the difference, they can help add depth and texture to your overall look.

There are so many great ways to incorporate color using different linens. Full table linens, runners, overlays, and of course selecting a coordinating look for the napkins or chair ties.

Love this idea too! This couple used maps to cover their tabletops, it helped to incorporate their theme of travel and flight. No one says that tables have to be covered with fabric!

Trends I Love - Creative Ring Shots

When we were married almost 7 years ago I didn't know much about photography and so I just went with someone that was more traditional, the same person my sister had used. Photography is the one major thing I would change about our wedding, I wish I would have hired someone more creative. One of my favorite things photographers are doing these days are the awesome and creative shots of the couples rings. It might not be a brand new trend but it's still a trend I love.

Trends I Love - Guys with Style

Not every wedding is a good match with wearing the traditional black tux and not every guy wants to wear one quite frankly. Grooms these days (with a little help from their significant other, I'm sure) are finding their own style on their wedding day. Whether it be from a funky tie or vest, a colorful pair of socks or even a completely unique look head to toe, it is being done. One fun idea I've seen done was that the groom, best man, groomsmen and ushers all wore different striped neck ties in the wedding colors depending on their "title". And then there is the casual outdoors or beach wedding that a nice sweater or dress shirt and khakis may flow.

Hair Styles for Amazing Accessories

Trends I Love - Coordinating Bridesmaid Dresses

One of my favorite current trends is the bride having her maids wear coordinating dresses in a similar color palette. I think it gives so much depth and interest to the wedding party. It's nice for the girls themselves to be given the flexibility to choose a dress that fits their body type and style as well. Along with different colors they also are having the maids pick from dresses in the same color but different styles, lengths and necklines. Another plus of this trend is the "wear again" philosophy, most of these dresses can be worn again on a different occasion and if the bridesmaids had a hand in picking their dress they are more likely to wear it again.

Wish I would have thought to do this when we got married!

There are other fun things you can use to embrace the rain...buy or rent colorful umbrellas or wear fun rain boots.

I LOVE this idea that was featured on Earth Friendly Weddings. The bride's great aunt and uncle saved some rain from the wedding day and bottled it as a gift for the couple, engraved with the wedding date. Awesome.

10 Ways to Use Clear Nail Polish

Every girl knows to use clear nail polish as a great top coat and to stop runs in nylons and tights but what other ways can you use it? According to Yahoo's Shine, here are 10 ways that you might not have thought of...

Making jewelry last. To extend the life of costume jewelry and to keep it looking bright and glossy, give beads a thin layer of polish. It helps prevent fading and tarnishing.

Sealing envelopes. In lieu of licking the envelope flaps to seal them (not only can this be ineffective, but does anyone find that taste as gross as I do?) dab on a little polish to keep them glued nice and tight.

Threading needles. Rather than get frustrated when attempting to thread a needle, run the cut side of the thread through the polish brush. Roll the thread between your fingers a couple times; the polish will dry pretty much immediately and the thread becomes stiffer (and much more easy to get through the eye of the needle).

Keeping belt buckles pristine. To ensure belt buckles stay bright and shiny, shellac them with a coat of polish to prevent oxidation.

Securing buttons. Brush on a dollop of polish in the center of your buttons to keep the threads from coming undone. If you have a sweater or dress with delicate pearly buttons, give the whole thing a coat of polish to keep them luminous.

Fixing window screens or shades. If you have a tear in a window shade or screen, paint on some polish to keep it from worsening.

Waterproofing matches. As any camper can attest, there are few bigger drags than a box of soggy matches. To waterproof them, paint the flammable tips with polish.

Wood floor repairs. A bit of clear polish is fantastic to touch-up minor dents and little scuffs on wood floors.

Avoiding rust stains. You know those rust rings that form on your tub if you leave shaving cream in the shower? Just varnish the underside of the can with a little polish to keep the metal from staining.

Shoelace protector. To stop shoelaces from unraveling and fraying, dip the ends in clear polish.

Michigan's Best - Winter

This post took me a little longer to write because well frankly, I just wasn't looking forward to Winter! It is a beautiful season in Michigan, we have some of the most gorgeous snowfall and when those large flakes settle on the trees, it is a literal winter wonderland.

Larissa Gartner of Larissa Christine Photography shared a couple of pictures from a fantastic winter wedding she shot. I love the snow falling in the last two shots!

Two of my favorite winter color palettes are icy blues and whites/ivories. When you are trying to showcase a winter wonderland theme, I believe the "colder" the colors the more you will be able to pull off that theme. Crisp whites and ivories are beautiful together, the simplicity makes it elegant and classic.

Blues in multiple shades are perfect for winter as well. I think of ice when I see them together, especially with fantastic lighting.

Great ideas for favors could be small snow globes or even personalized ornaments for each couple. I also love the idea of your bridesmaids carrying hand muffs or bouquets made of branches of crystals, all fabulous.

Michigan's Best - Fall

This post may be a little biased, I am a LOVER of fall! In my opinion, it is the best season in Michigan by far. Not many states get to enjoy this season like we do with the leaves changing, that magical smell in the air and well, we have U of M football ;) When my hubby and I picked our wedding date there was no question it was going to be a fall wedding, September 26 ended up being perfect.

One great inspiration from fall are all the farmer's markets, we are blessed with such an array of amazing produce that is available locally. Lynell Shooks from Lizzie Photo shared this gorgeous fall wedding with me. This couple decorated using local produce as centerpieces, including gourds, pumpkins and apples. They decided to stay local with everything which I think is fantastic. All the fallen leaves are incredible in these gorgeous photos, thanks Lynell for sharing!!

There are so many amazing color combinations that can be used with a fall event. Oranges, golds, browns, even shades of burgundy reminiscent of wine. Michigan has multiple areas that are known for their wineries. In the northern Lower Peninsula such as Traverse City and the Leelanau Peninsula and in the southern part of the state in towns such as Fennville and South Haven. Wineries and vineyards make gorgeous backdrops for events. But of course if you hold your event at one it's a must to send your guests home with a bottle of the vineyards best, perhaps with a personalized label of your choosing.

Michigan's Best - Late Summer/Early Fall

Okay I'm straying from the "four" seasons a little bit here but I couldn't resist. One of my husband and I's favorite hobbies is camping and just plain being outdoors. I didn't feel like it really fit with summer but wasn't completely fall either.

Here in Michigan we have 100 state parks located throughout both the Lower Peninsula and the Upper Peninsula. If you are outdoorsy like we are why not plan a rustic, natural event? It can be very creative and very classy and at the same time why not make it relaxed and casual? Many of these state parks even have locations available for more intimate weddings and receptions.

I love the look of using a log slice as a cake stand, birch bark covered vases for your centerpieces and twigs tucked into your bouquet. The little birds on the cake pictured above are just too cute. In 2008 I had a groom who was a logger and they used a lot of log pieces, both under the cakes and even hollowed out as votive holders. Check out more photos from their big day here. Michigan's Best - Summer

If someone was to ask me my favorite color combination I would definitely answer red and Tiffany blue. I even used the combo for my 30th party bash and it's what we wore for our family pictures. I love the contrast of the bold red against the soft shade of blue. When I think of summer I think of the holidays, Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day. All of these holidays have one thing in common...red, white and blue.

A fun Michigan twist on these summer colors would be using one of the state's top crops as your inspiration, cherries. There are so many fun ways you could incorporate cherries into your event without going overboard. Cherry blossoms are gorgeous and could be used as lovely centerpieces, chocolate covered cherries or locally made cherry preserves would be a great favor for your guests. And even ending the evening with ice cream sundaes with a cherry on top would be very memorable!

One of the first things people think of when they think of Michigan are the lakes. Using a nautical theme for your big day would be a wonderful way to showcase our Great Lakes. Collect postcards from around the state's lakeshore to use for your Save The Dates. Along with numbering your tables, give them all names of Michigan's lighthouses (Detour Reef Lighthouse, Big Sable Point Lighthouse, Eagle Harbor Lighthouse, etc.) or lake shore cities and towns (Grand Haven, Ludington, Isle Royale, etc.). Send your guests off with a personalized compass or refridgerator magnets you've collected with the postcards. This would be an especially fun theme if you were using Michigan as a destination for your wedding. What a fun way for your guests to get to know the state!

There is so much inspiration from Michigan that could be utilized for your summer event. One great way to find a starting point would be to go to Michigan Festivals and Events Association website for a list of all of Michigan's festivals. Festivals such as Blossomtime Festival, Tulip Time Festival and even the Storytellers Festival would all be great jumping points for ideas.

Michigan's Best - Spring

This is a hard weekend to write about spring inspiration, especially after waking up Saturday to snow. Some people may consider winter as the first season of a year but I think that a year starts with the season that signals new beginnings.

For me a lot of the inspiration for spring comes from the nature that is coming to life around Michigan during this early season.

One of the most notorious Michigan blossoms, which also happens to be the state flower, is the apple blossom. It is a delicate blossom that smells amazing! Apple blossoms bloom early May and are a definite sign of spring. The site of the trees covered in these gorgeous flowers is a site to behold. Who wouldn't want to be married in the midst of them?

Apple blossoms provide a gorgeous color palette if you are looking for your spring wedding inspiration, they range from white to pale pink. Michigan is home to hundreds of apple orchards, if you love the blossoms as much as the bride above did, look into having your ceremony at one. Just beware, these delicate blossoms are VERY temperamental, especially to the weather.

Another sign of spring in Michigan are the Robins, who are also the state bird. When the Robins first arrive back from their winter migration you know that good weather is about to follow. One of my all time favorite colors in Robin's egg blue. It is a perfect spring shade of blue, it's happy and romantic.

Some people may shy away from pastel shades during the spring to avoid an Eastery look, but check out these photos from a post by Elizabeth Anne Designs. This combination of Robin's Egg blue and lavender is absolutely lovely and has a certain vintage appeal.

If you like the purple from the lavender above, early spring is the perfect chance to use lilacs as well.

Seasonal Inspiration - Michigan's Best

So far this year I have posted on multiple occasions (here, here and here) how excited I am that it is spring. The new blooms sprouting, the amazing colors to showcase the season, spring is wonderful. Honestly, when you live in the Midwest, all the seasons are amazing in their own way.

Each season has it's own way of inspiring. The colors that nature gives us, the flowers which are in season and even our hobbies are all ways of gaining inspiration for your event through a season.

Next week I will begin featuring Michigan's best inspiration season by season. Stay tuned!

Plantable Favors

These days everyone is trying to be a little more green and eco-friendly on their big day. A fun way to incorporate this and to get your guests involved is to send them home with plantable favors. Over the last few years I have seen a few different ideas that I adore.

For a more rustic themed wedding, the evergreen seedling. The Arbor Day Society sells individual seedlings for $3. They come in an adorable tube with a customizable label. And even better, the tube converts into a bird-feeder after the tree is planted! You can choose from Redwoods, Pines or Spruces.

For a spring or vintage themed wedding, there are the Plantable Butterfly Papers from Swallow Tail Farms. These papers come in different colors and shapes. Each paper is made of 100% cotton and has a least three different varieties of seeds embedded in them. The small size which is 3x2 inches sell for $19.95 per 25 standard favors, but you can also customize them by adding personalized labels or even ribbons.
And for the DIY bride with a super green thumb, pre-potted plants doing double duty as table centerpieces. Downside with this idea is that they will need to be planted and cared for before the wedding day. Also, if many of your guests are traveling they would be hard to take along, especially on a plane. I do love the idea of a double duty favor though, if you are looking for something to cut costs a bit this would work.

Brighten Your Day

I love these candlesticks from CB2, I can totally seem them down the center of a rectangle banquet table with floral pieces scattered amongst them. Plus, I love the yellow chairs! Anything with a bright splash of color brightens my day :)

Dress Inspired Cakes

When looking for inspiration for their wedding cake design some brides turn to their bridal gown. It's a great way to tie everything together and show off your style in one more place.

Some brides go straight for the literal interpretation...which can be ummm...very interesting and unique...

Vintage Dress Tradition

I was so excited when I showed up at Rebecca and Matt's rehearsal and saw she was wearing her mother's wedding dress. It is such a cute dress and what a great tradition for a family to have. Rebecca is the youngest of six siblings and two of her sisters had also worn the dress to their rehearsals.

A few alterations needed to be done each time it was worn but her mom is a great seamstress so that was no problem. Her mother said that she assumed Rebecca would be the last to wear it when one of her granddaughters expressed interest it in...how great is that!?

Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me so here are a couple of shots her mother took during the rehearsal. I loved the details on the dress, the collar and buttons were adorable.

Get To Know - Inspiration Video

I've met Anne Oppenhuizen of Inspiration Video a couple of times at different industry events over the years, but I feel like I've known her forever. Anne is just one of those people that is fun to be around and fun to talk too. I wanted to feature Anne and Inspiration Video this week because she does an amazing job on wedding and other videography and you really need to get to know her...

What type of services do you offer?

My company does about 25 - 30 weddings a year. I love weddings and I love making a video that people can enjoy and remember their special day forever! I also do corporate video which includes promotional videos for companies often added to their website. Also, I tape many sports as well. A lot of high school students are now interested in a video to help them get a sports scholarship for college. I make pictures montages for any occasion: weddings, birthdays, presentations, funerals, and anniversaries just to name a few. I also travel from time to time around the country doing live large event recordings.

How long have you been business and where are you located?

I have been in business for 7 years, since 2003. I am located in Holland, Michigan.

How did you get into videography?

In my first two years at college, I thought I wanted to do graphic design. Then I got a job on campus at Hope College working for the video services department taping events around campus. I loved it! I quickly changed my major to communications with a video/media focus. Then, when I was about a semester away from graduating, I had a conversation with my advisor, Dr. David Schock. He does not like to take credit for this upcoming part of my journey, but I give all the credit to him. We were sitting in JP's coffee shop, and I explained to him that I knew I wanted to stay in West Michigan, but every company in video production that I wanted to apply to, had a small staff and was not hiring. He then said, "Well then you could start YOUR own company." The thought was very frightening at the time and seemed impossible until we kept talking. I was scared of the start up cost and the thought of having to find work while working for myself. He encouraged me the entire way. I thank Dr. Schock for making the seemingly impossible, seem possible! In no time, I had purchased a computer for editing and rented the rest of the equipment that I needed, before purchasing my own about six months later. It was a perfect time to start my own company, just before graduating from Hope. As you graduate, many people ask, "What is next for you?" I was able to respond with excitement that I had just started my own company in video production. Word spread fast, and I had my first major client before graduation day! I began my company working in the corporate field, producing many demonstrational and promotional videos. Then I did a wedding. I loved it! The live event taping is fun, and working with people on the happiest day of their life is very exciting!

What do you think sets you apart from other vendors in the industry?

One thing that sets me apart from the other video companies in the wedding industry is that all of my video packages include a highlight video of their day. I think that this is a very important part to have, as it is so much fun for the bride and groom to quick show their friends and family the most special parts of their day, all carefully edited to the music that they select!

Is there anything that you specialize in?

I do specialize in wedding video production.

When you’re not busy working, how do you like to spend your downtime?

Movies are a favorite of mine; at home or going out to the theater. I enjoy snow and water skiing, tennis and even love to dance! I have a great appreciation for fine art, theater, comedy and dance productions. My new favorite part of the job is meeting, networking, and making new friends with all of the other crazy wedding vendors like myself! We are a unique bunch and I love how much fun we have referring each other, working together, and just having fun with one another!

But when I saw this particular dress the word "swoon" came to mind. Of course I had to check out the designer's website to see even more amazing gowns.

Non-Traditional Bridal Bouquets

When it comes to weddings, as of late, there is nothing that is left being untouched by the non-traditional stick. Among the current trends that I love such as colored shoes and hair accessories instead of veils is the use of non-traditional bridal bouquets.

I'm so glad that brides don't feel like they have to have a bouquet of white flowers just because they are the bride. I love when a bride carries a brightly colored bouquet, it pops against her dress and looks amazing in pictures. And I especially love when brides stray away from the traditional flowers of roses and calla lilies and go for something more outside of the box.

Here are some ideas for bridal bouquets if you are looking for something a little more trendy and a little less traditional.

After being friends on Facebook and following along on Twitter, Rose and I finally met in person at the Lakeshore Wedding & Event Professionals event back in January. 1. What type of services do you offer?

I am a wedding and lifestyle photographer. I also do senior pictures, maternity pictures, baby pictures, and family portraits. Engagement sessions are some of my favorites!

2. How long have you been in the photography industry and where are you located?

I have been a photographer for much of my life. I was always the member of the family who took all the holiday, birthday, and graduation photos. I have been in the wedding industry since 2007. I am located in Grand Rapids, MI but have photographed weddings all over lower and central Michigan. I am willing to travel and would LOVE to do a destination wedding some day!

3. What type of clients do you like to work with (traditional, modern, etc.)?

I like to work with a variety of people. I sincerely enjoy unique people. I adore talking with anyone about their relationship; how they fell in love, the proposal story, and finally all the plans they have for the big day.

4. How would you classify your style of photography?

I shoot a combination of posed and documentary style photos. My main goal while I am photographing a wedding it to capture real moments that happen. Recreating the smile a groom gives his bride when he first sees her in her dress is impossible. The same holds true for a father walking his daughter down the aisle or grandparents proudly watching on as new union is formed. These are the “magic” moments in life that I strive to capture.

5. When you’re not busy working, how do you like to spend your downtime?

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my fabulous husband. Together we like to travel, garden, peruse rummage sales, and admire antiques. I love spending time outdoors camping, hiking, swimming, and kayaking. My family and friends are my cheerleaders and support network so being with them is a priority when I’m not working.

6. What is one crazy story of something that has happened while you were working?

I had an unfortunate clothing mishap once when photographing a wedding. I purchased a new silk button down blouse and wore it for the first time to a wedding. It was not stitched together well and started to unravel part way through the morning. I managed to fasten it together with safety pins, borrowed from the bride, but by the end of the evening, it was barely holding. I had to keep my Shoot Sac tightly stretched across me to keep my top together. It was awful. I will never wear a button down shirt to a wedding again!

Picking the Big Date

Every girl dreams of her big day, the day she will marry her Prince Charming. But we all dream of it in a different way. A different season, different location, different style. I wanted to get married in the fall, it's both my husband and I's favorite season by far and we couldn't picture it any other way. One couple I know chose their date because it worked well for the majority of their family that was employed by schools. Another couple is still in college and picked the date based on their spring break schedule.

How did you pick your wedding date? Did you want to get married on or near a specific date for sentimental reasons? Or did you want to marry in a certain month and your date was the only one available by the venue?

Amazing Aisle

I'm in love with this aisle, of course this photograph magnifies it's beauty. I picture this aisle in a backyard garden wedding, with the ceremony taking place just as the sun sets. The hurricanes would be glowing as the guests left, so romantic.

I cannot even begin to imagine how many petals it took to create this. I had a bride that wanted this look and with 300 roses it didn't even come close to being this long or this thick. Amazing.

One of my favorite outdoor wedding details is the aisle. There are so many ways to make it unique and beautiful. Here are a few ideas...

Or something as simple as an aisle runner with petals scattered.

My only caution when thinking of using flower petals is to keep in mind your venue and if it is a windy location. The venue may not allow you to use petals due to the clean up. If it is a windy day you may not get the exact look you are going for or the petals won't be able to be placed until just before you walk the aisle.

Choosing Your Bridal Party

It can be one of the hardest decisions for a newly engaged couple to make. Choosing the bridal party. It can especially be difficult if you are from large families or have a big group of friends that you are super close with.

Some couples decide to include everyone in order to avoid hurting feelings, this can result in huge bridal parties, the kind that take up the whole front of the church. Other couples narrow it down by only selecting the people they are the closest too and asking others to do things such as readings, solos or personally assisting them while getting ready.

When my husband and I got engaged I knew I wanted a small bridal party, maybe 3 or 4 on each side. I decided to ask only my "sisters" (my sister, my future SIL, and my cousin). But for my husband it was much harder since he had been living with the same guys for the last 4 years at college and had close friends from high school still. So what we decided is that we would have 3 on each side and four ushers. It turned out perfect and we were so glad to have everyone important to us involved.

The size of the group may narrow itself down as well. Depending on the financial and time commitments you are asking they may not all be able to participate. When asking your friends to be a part of your big day let them know date and location as soon as possible, as well as what will be expected of them. By doing this, if they know they will not be up to the task you will have time to ask someone else without it seeming like an afterthought.

In the last year or two I have noticed a relaxation of the "bridal party rules", and I fully support it! Do not feel that you need to have an equal number of bridesmaids as groomsmen or that you can't have two best men or two maids of honor. Anything goes!

Two Weddings

I am in love with this photo. It was taken this past fall at Apple Blossom Chapel & Gardens. The downpour arrived just as the couple was being pronounced husband and wife. What a great story to have from your wedding day!

Color Craving

I just got a craving, a craving for tangerine and lime...no not the fruit the color combo. I believe inspiration comes from the most unique places, in this case my cat. He is a beautiful orange tabby with bright green eyes. Looking at him just now made me think "You would make such a fun color combo for a spring wedding!". Poor cat.

January LWEP social

Tuesday night we held our first Lakeshore Wedding & Event Professionals (LWEP) meeting in Holland. Above & Beyond Banquets and Catering was generous enough to host us both for the venue, The Willow Room, and the hors d'oeuvres. And can I just say that the Mushroom and Tomato Bruschetta was to die for?

This group is open to anyone in the wedding and event industry looking to make connections, build relationships and all in all just have a nice night out with colleagues every other month or so. It is a free group, no association dues or annual fees. We try to keep each event free of charge or a very minimal cost depending on the venue and bar situation. The events are very informal, just an opportunity to mingle and exchange business cards.

The LWEP group will be focused on the areas along the lake shore from Muskegon to South Haven (or further if requested). If you are interested in a group like this but are in the Grand Rapids area, there is a chapter located there as well. The Grand Rapids chapter is known as WMWEP, West Michigan Wedding & Event Professionals and meets the opposite months of LWEP.

I started this year off with apprehension. Like most people I get apprehensive about the unknown and running my business while starting our family was definitely unknown. But what an amazing year we had here at Memorable Events! I cannot be more thankful for the AMAZING brides and grooms, the FANTASTIC vendors and venues, and my AWESOME crew.

This year was fun with the majority of our ceremonies being outdoors, which always involve their own unique twists. It was great to have so many challenges to increase our experience and knowledge. This industry is always growing and changing, it is wonderful to grow with it.

Our couples from 2009 were super creative and included so many fun and unique personal touches to their big days. Vibrant colors, romantic settings, yummy treats, every detail was gorgeous. I am so humbled that I was able to help them make their visions come to life.

This was the first year that I took on an intern to help Memorable Events and it was such a great decision! I had two lovely ladies from GVSU that assisted me with day of duties, Therese and Stephanie. They did a great job. Also, having my associate Amber around was a huge help as well.

All in all it was a great year and I'm so thankful for every moment. Looking forward to the future of Memorable Events!

All types of design & printing really – everything from custom wedding invitations and coordinating items to birth announcements to corporate branding and marketing materials to personalized stationery items. Something for everyone!

How long have you been business and where are you located?

I’ve been in business for just over 6 years now and run my business from my home in Grandville, MI.

How did you get into making stationary products?

Funny story… It happened on accident! I designed and printed my oldest daughter’s birth announcements and sent them out to family, friends, and some of our neighbors. One of those neighbors had a daughter getting married and called me to find out who had done the birth announcements. She ended up being my first client. Happy clients and word of mouth has helped my business grow to what it is today.

What do you think sets you apart from other vendors in the industry?

Personalized service. I LOVE shopping online as much as the next person, but when it comes to something as important as your wedding invitations brides what a little more personalized service. I meet most of my customers face to face. I get to know them and learn a little about their style and taste and then help them find or design the something that is them to a tee.

What is your most requested product (i.e. Save the Date, baby announcements, wedding invites)?

Pocket style wedding invitations. EVERYONE loves these! They are so beautiful and they can be customized in so many different ways! I carry a line of papers called “Envelopments” and what you can do with their products alone is so amazing.

When you’re not busy working, how do you like to spend your downtime?

Downtime – what’s that? In addition to running a business I’m a full-time stay at home wife & mom of two beautiful little girls. I stay busy spending time with my family – boating, running to gymnastics & music classes, volunteering at my daughter’s school, and staying involved in our church and community, reading, crocheting, and I’m a sucker for all types of home-parties!

1. What type of services do you offer?

Weddings by SCC provides tasting/consultation appointments for those who prefer something different in the dessert area. We provide our cheesecakes for weddings, along with dummy cakes for those who want a more traditional look without purchasing actual cake. We also provide delivery/set up services for our clients.

How long have you been business and where are you located?

We have been in business for 8 years now. We currently work from a State Licensed kitchen in our home in Hudsonville.

How did you get into making cheesecakes?

When we got married we decided we didn’t want to go the traditional route. We wrote our own vows, went barefoot at an outdoor ceremony, things like that. Neither of us likes cake all that much… so, we decided to have cheesecake. I found a recipe that was good enough but, it needed some tweaking. So, I adjusted it until it suited us. We served it at the reception and everyone kept asking “where” we bought the cheesecake. I laughed and told them we “made” it. People began encouraging us to go into business… so we gave it a shot and here we are.

What do you think sets you apart from other vendors in the industry?

Wedding cheesecakes! There are very few companies that do them. We strive to provide a quality product that looks beautiful and tastes wonderful. I believe Weddings by Sinful Cheesecake Company is unique in a baking industry that mainly provides traditional wedding cakes.

Do you have a favorite flavor of cheesecake? What is your most requested flavor?

Oh, yes I do… actually; there are two…Key Lime and Tiramisu. Our best seller is White Chocolate Raspberry Swirl. That one out sells every other flavor we have.

When you’re not busy working, how do you like to spend your downtime?

Spending time with my family, decorating my house, planning something… I really do seek out creative outlets… even when I am not working.

Our specialty is weddings. Because we deal exclusively with brides and event planners we are not distracted by retail sales. 4. What do you think sets you apart from other vendors in the industry?

When a bride is dealing with a traditional floral shop she typically has a consultation with one person, another one orders her flowers, another one designs her flowers, and another delivers her order. This allows for the brides vision to be "lost in translation" and produces a mass production look. At En Gedi Bridal, the bride only deals with the designers, Jodi and Sara. We personally handle every detail of her event, making sure it is a reflection of her personality.

Do you have a favorite flower that you like to use? Do you have a favorite color scheme?

A favorite flower is difficult to choose. Our favorite designs are ones which embrace the season of the event. Nothing is more beautiful than a red, orange and russet event in October, a vibrant pallet of hot pinks in July, or a crisp pallet of whites in January. We enjoy wowing brides with unique seasonal flowers and greens that make her event more special than the cookie cutter floral mix.

When you’re not busy working, how do you like to spend your downtime?

Both of our designers are full time moms of very active children. We also both have a passion for interior design. Both Jodi and Sara are also active as volunteers in our churches and in our children's schools.

What type of services do you offer?

DJ Services is my specialty. I feature in occasional club scenes and also cater to various functions including Wedding Receptions, Birthday Parties, Private Parties, Holiday Parties, Family Gatherings, Anniversary Parties, etc. Name it, I cater to it.

How long have you been in the industry and where are you located?

I’ve been a Disc Jockey for over 10 years. I am based in Holland, Michigan but take pride in being open enough to go pretty much wherever the client is.

Is there anything within your business that you specialize in?

Mixing music and incorporating various styles of the art, eliminating dead air, and playing tunes that move the crowd. My goal is to always infuse electric energy, keep the crowd on their feet and entertained throughout the night. I like the challenge of mixing genres you’d never think possible;, example a rock n roll song with a country ballad…

What do you think sets you apart from other vendors in the industry?

A personal touch and great customer service! In addition to my DJ role, I wear the cap of an event planner/organizer. I like to pay attention to small details like getting to know the client’s taste, their guests tastes, themes, visiting venues before hand, etc. I also negotiate contracts or service terms on a client’s behalf. These qualities and more, I find, are key to pulling off successful events and make a big difference in the grand scheme of things.

5. What is THE most requested song? Have you ever had any really bizarre requests?

Wow! There are several but if I had to pick one song I’d have to say the “Electric Slide.” As for bizarre requests, none comes to mind at the moment. Each client/event is unique.

6. When you’re not busy working, how do you like to spend your downtime?

I somehow find myself mixing music for fun, listening to it, reading a good book, or watching a movie. I also enjoy outdoor activities such as biking, jogging, and photography.

Traditions - The Bouquet Toss

Lately, at most of my consultations, my couples have one or more tradition that they want to stray from. When they tell me this they always get quiet and look at me like they are anticipating to hear "GASP!!! What!?" out of my mouth. But the answer they usually get is "Great! Let's make this exactly how YOU want it, nothing says you have to use all the traditions". So I decided I was going to post a little bit about the main traditions, their origins and other options you have. Let's start with...

The Bouquet Toss:

(okay, I had to use this picture I found here, for so many reasons!!! Talk about non-traditional!! Love the girl in the bikini.)

The origin of the bouquet toss goes back to the fourteenth century. Guests believed that it was good luck to get a piece of the brides dress. Often one of the ribbons tied into the dress to bring the bride herself good luck. The "well-wishers" would rush the bride to get this good luck. In a way to try and protect themselves and appease the crowd brides began tossing their bouquets at the guests.

If your guest list doesn't have many single ladies (you're singing right now aren't you?) or you just want to do something a little different. Here are some alternatives to tossing a bouquet.

Present the bouquet to a special friend or family member (either privately or publicly)

Have a "couples dance", where the DJ announces certain number of years (such as 5 years or less) and couples that have been married longer than that stay until you get to the couple that has been together the longest and give the bouquet to the wife.

Florists can make breakaway bouquets that would be multiple little bouquets all tied together and when thrown they break apart, that way multiple ladies win!

Whatever you decide to do for your big day, just remember one thing...have fun and be creative with it!

Anniversary Journal

A few years ago I bought a journal. The title on the front says "Cherished Hopes, Treasured Dreams". It is a pretty book with a quote on every few pages like: "Recall it as often as you wish, a happy memory never wears out." - Libbie Fudim. The purpose of this journal was to record Derek and I's marriage so that someday when our children and grandchildren wanted to have that history it would be all written down for them. My goal was to write in it on every anniversary and tell about the past year in our life together. A wonderful and beautiful goal, I believed and still do.

I just came across this journal again while organizing and when I flipped it open I noticed I have only recorded one year of our six together. At first it made me sad, then I wondered why this is and I think that every time I come across the journal it isn't our anniversary so I set it aside until the next year. What a stupid thought! Just because it's not the exact date of our wedding doesn't mean I can't reminisce about the year that has just past us.

I think I'm going to sit down tonight and write in the journal - I'm only a month late this year. How can I not want to share the joys the past year have brought us...our son!!! And then someday when we are gone he will be able to share our love and our family with his own. Maybe I will even start adding a picture each year!!

Get To Know - Nine Mile Smile

Why do I love going to MWEP meetings? All the fun people I get to meet. And one of those people is Kurtis of Nine Mile Smile. Nine Mile Smile is West Michigan's premiere wedding band. Nine Mile Smile is a group of professional musicians with many combined years of playing and performing. 9MS brings the party with them wherever they go. From local bars and clubs to casinos, corporate parties and weddings - the energy level on stage is always high.

Get To Know...Nine Mile Smile...

1. Who are the members of the band and what do they play?

We have 6 full time members of the band and 1 Sound Engineer (part time). Rex plays rhythm guitar, and I (Kurtis) play drums. Together, we founded the band, and both act as managers when it comes to the business aspects of the band. We also both sing back up vocals. Katie is our lead singer, has been singing her whole life, and she has some major pipes! Tighe plays bass guitar and helps with vocals. We call him the musical rainman because he was born with perfect pitch. He can tell you what note your car horn beeps at! He also directs the ensemble and vocals during rehearsals. With all of us singing together, we have a pretty sweet 4-part harmony. Our two newest members are Joaquin, who plays lead guitar, and Matt who plays keyboards. They are spectacular, and really shine during their solos. For gigs like weddings, festivals and events, we bring on our sound engineer Ken. He is a master behind the sound and lightboards. It really becomes a full production when he is along!

2. How long has the band been together? How did you all meet?

Rex and I started a version of this band about 5 years ago. Back then, we were Midnight Detour and were just taking off in a big way when 3 members had new babies, and one moved to Tampa for a job. So, almost 2 years ago, Rex and I basically started over and knew we wanted to put together a band with great musicians. We scoured West Michigan and found Tighe and Katie, and an East Coast keyboard player that was only here working for a year. When he left, we hired Matt, and then added Joaquin to fill us out even more. I think we've found the right combination of folks to really make our performances something people remember.

3. What types of music do you play?

We play Top 40 Songs from the 70's-00's. Our main focus however, is 80s and 90's Pop. Think Michael and Madonna, Journey, the Bangles, the B-52s... even Neil Diamond! Stuff everyone knows but aren't necessarily expecting. Our favorite thing is a jam packed dance floor, and we like to keep it that way!

4. What are some of the most requested songs? What is one of the craziest requests you've gotten?

Everyone requests Free Bird. It got to a point where if someone requested it, we would stop right there and play the song. It was never on the setlist, but we played it every single gig. You should see the look on peoples faces when we pull it out. The strangest request? Well, we recently played something called the Harvest Moon Ball. Think Prom meets Shadyside Retirement Home. It was fun, but I dont think they were expecting a rock band. We had a couple requests for a Foxtrot, or a Waltz. It started a little shaky with them not knowing what to expect, but we take great pride in being able to feel out any crowd and we were able to give them what they wanted. It turned out to be a really fun night for everyone.

5. What type of events are you available for?

That's the beauty of our band, we are up for anything. However, I think we really specialize in weddings. I love being able to work with a bride to give her exactly what she's thinking for her reception. Besides that, we can do anything you can come up with. If you need something soft, we offer a whole night of just jazz. If you want to do a country theme we have a whole night of just country music. I'd have to say though, the best idea I've heard lately was having an 80's/90's prom party where everyone dresses up and we play only 80s/90s music.

6. Is there anything special you do for weddings or events?

We take weddings very seriously. This is your day, and we will do everything and anything to make sure it goes off without a hitch. From the day we are booked, I work very closely with the bride and groom to make sure every base is covered. From the introductions of the wedding party, to the first dances, to the break music in between our sets, everything is chosen to make sure the bride gets exactly what she wants. We also ask the couple to pick any 5 songs for us to learn and play on their day. It could be their favorite songs, it could be their first dance songs, it can be anything they want. It's a ton of fun to introduce "their song" before we play it. Because this is your most important day, we make sure we're up there presenting you in the most professional way possible. We're all very comfortable playing in our suits!

7. Why should someone book a band like yours rather than a DJ?

There is so much more energy at your event with a live band. It's an entirely different atmosphere, a different vibe. I think sometimes people are afraid to book bands because they think they are too expensive, or they are afraid a band wont be as professional. I cant speak for every band, but I will say with Nine Mile Smile, you get a very professional group of people that will treat your event as their own. A lot of bands don't enjoy doing weddings or corporate events, but we are the opposite. It really is our specialty! As for the price, we arent out to make a bunch of money. We all have "real" jobs. We arent trying to make it big. We do it because it's fun, and because we love to be the life of the party. I will say though, like with everything, but especially in the entertainment business - you get what you pay for!

8. Anything else about Nine Mile Smile you would like to share?

When it comes to booking entertainment, we know you have many choices. If you think that a DJ is the only way to go because of budget, ease, or because you think they can play everything, I urge you to talk to us and see what we offer. I can provide a list of past clients with their personal letters of referrals to help you make your decision. I know they were all skeptical at first too, but once you hear us, talk to us, and work with us - there's no question you'll want us!

Being Well "Groomed"

I recently read an article by Peter Scott author of "Well Groomed". The article included tips that every groom should know before he (tries to) helps his bride plan their wedding. Thought they should be shared...

1. Don't freak out if your bride puts a zillion items on your gift registry. Remember: Unlike that weird lamp you got from Aunt Zelda, registry gifts can be returned.

2. Just because you know someone in a band, it doesn't mean that group should play at your wedding.

3. It's nice if your best man is a good friend, but it's even more important that he be reliable.

4. If your bride and her mom have a disagreement about a wedding planning details, always side with your bride.

5. The fact that you've never met someone doesn't count as a good reason for not inviting him/her to the wedding.

6. If your bride has a mini-meltdown during the planning, just give her a hug and tell her everything's right on schedule (even if that's a lie).

7. Try on your ring before the wedding day to be sure it fits. You don't want to be combing the ballroom floor at 3 am because your ring slipped off.

8. Whatever amount you've budgeted for the booze, add 20 percent. And then another 50 percent. Now you've got an accurate number.

9. If you don't own a tux, consider buying one. It will look nice, smell nice, and actually fit. (And no matter what it costs, it will be cheaper than your bride's dress).

10. If you're writing your own vows, make sure your bride isn't speaking for 20 minutes when all you've come up with is, "You're awesome baby".

11. No matter where or when you take a honeymoon, call ahead and have a bottle of champagne waiting in the hotel room.

12. If you have friends who are guaranteed to make inappropriate toasts, don't pass around the microphone at the rehearsal dinner. In fact, why are those friends even at the rehearsal dinner?

I think my favorite for sure is #10, too funny!

Amber & Derek - October 17, 2009

Well, my 2009 wedding season has officially ended. And what a great wedding to end the season on. Amber and Derek were married in Grand Rapids yesterday and followed the ceremony up with a beautiful reception at Frederick Meijer Gardens.

Amber hired Memorable Events for Set Up services, and from the first email exchange I knew I would love all of her details. Amber and Derek love everything earthy, organic and eco-friendly and that really showed in their decor. They did their own centerpieces which consisted of DIY glass cake stands (pieced together from second hand stores), DIY floral arrangements and greenery cut from the backyard. I loved all her small touches, such as the birch table number holders and the hand made caramel apple favors.

And I can't forget to mention the dessert table....oh the dessert table!!! There were 12, yes 12, pies from Grand Traverse Pie Co. and 2 cakes, a cheesecake, a tiramisu and chocolate pudding tarts from Marie Catribs. Amber had collected and pieced together all different colored and sized cake stands for this table as well. And in between the desserts we tucked cute little "cake toppers", like a Darth Vader and Storm Trooper Mr. Potato Heads, a tofu and bacon couple, and mini knights for Amber's love of medieval history.

Amber's sister surprised her with the idea of doing a photo booth area for the guests to take fun pictures and place them in a guest book for the couple. Very fun. There were a ton of props for the guests to use, including bride and groom Mickey Mouse hats!

Get To Know - Amy Boeve Photography

I am always nervous when I go to places and don't know anyone. A few months ago when I was at one of my first MWEP meetings I didn't know many people and was just standing over to the side surveying the room. All of the sudden I was approached by one of the sweetest people ever! Amy Boeve came over and introduced herself and I just knew it was the start of a great relationship, both professionally and personally.

Amy has an amazing eye for photography, she is truly blessed with great talent. If you are looking for great pictures and a great experience you must check her out.

What type of services do you offer to your clients?
I offer fun, fresh wedding photography and modern portraits. I specialize in relaxed photojournalism where I strive to capture natural moments between a couple!

How long have you been in the photography industry and where are you located?
While photography has been a passion of mine for several years this is my second summer shooting weddings professionally. I fell in love with capturing couples on their wedding day. I am located in Grand Rapids but also do a lot of work in the Detroit area.

What type of couples do you like to work with (traditional, modern, etc.)?

I enjoy working with couples who are relaxed and looking to have a good time with their photography! I love when couples can have fun and I always take lots of laughing photos:)

Is there anything within your business that you specialize in?
I specialize in wedding photojournalism which basically means I capture natural moments as they are happening. I will pose a couple but then tell them to cuddle into each other, talk and play. During that time I end up getting the most romantic relaxed photos!

I think what sets me apart is my ability to connect with my brides. I love getting to know couples before their wedding! I strive to capture their personalities and have their pictures reflect who they are. I also love to make couples laugh and am willing to act like a dork to accomplish this:)

Turning Apple Picking into Decorating

This time of year it is common practice in Michigan to go apple picking. To be outdoors in the fall is poetic, with the cool air and the smells, I just love it. I have had the opportunity to go to an orchard more than once this season but it overwhelms me to think of what to do with all the apples once I have them home. I'm not that handy in the kitchen plus I don't have much time to spend in there. I have made apple crisp once though :)

If you are like me and love the orchard experience but lack the time to create much out of the apples here is a great idea that is quick and easy.

Take any nice sized apothecary jar, hurricane or vase and fill it with different sized apples. It works well with two different sizes, a large and a small to fill in the gaps. Mixing colors or varieties is a fun way to incorporate color into the arrangement as well. If you think to grab a few leaves off the trees while picking you can tuck them in between the apples for a more organic look.

6. When you’re not busy working, how do you like to spend your downtime?

Creating new cupcakes, of course! J Well, both of us come from large families, so we definitely love spending time with them! We also volunteer locally with nonprofit organizations and like to be out and about in Grand Rapids as much as we can!

7. What is one crazy story of something that has happened while you were working?

We’ve been fairly lucky so far that nothing too crazy has happened at Crumbles Cupcakery, though we’re sure our day is coming! We have had some baking disasters in our kitchens but thankfully only while we were testing new recipes and not working on a big order. There have definitely been a few dozen cupcakes that have gone straight from the oven to the trash, and maybe even a few tears shed in the kitchen, but nothing catastrophic yet!

Get To Know - Chic Chair Covers

This week I am featuring Bianca from Chic Chair Covers. Bianca and I met this summer and immediately hit if off, we even both have Boxers! Here is a little about CCC.

Chic Chair Covers, LLC (CCC) offers white banquet style chair covers and organza sashes in a variety of different colors. The owner, Bianca Tompsett, runs the business from her home in Allendale where she meets with clients to see our products and find the perfect sash color to compliment the events decor.

Bianca, a graduate of Ferris State University's College of Business, has a passion for weddings and events in general. With five years of experience working directly with events, from planning to advertising, she knew she wanted to have her hand in events in some way. After planning her own wedding in 2007, she realized the wedding industry is where she wanted to focus her energy.

"I've been a guest at far too many receptions where the couple uses chair linens, but the sashes are on the floor by the end of the night. One thing you'll notice about our high quality organza sashes is that they're slightly thicker than our competitors, so it stays on the chair and holds it form better than others," Tompsett said.

Bianca offers many services for free that other chair linen providers often charge extra for. She personally sets up the chair covers with her team, as well as steams them on-site, for no extra charge. She takes pride in the finished product, as it adds a lot to the ambiance of the room.

"I can remember my wedding day distinctly. One thing I definitely didn't want to deal with was setting up chair covers and sashes. I just wanted to focus on getting ready, staying relaxed, and having a good time. So, we ended up paying someone to do the set-up for us....which added up quickly! That is why I opted to offer free set-up and steaming of all chair covers and sashes. That way the room will look crisp and clean, and the bride doesn't have to lift a finger," Tompsett said.

When she's not working she enjoys spending time with her husband and their dog Bella, a Boxer. She enjoys traveling, photography, party planning, and anything design related.

Table Design/Bridal Show

I did my first bridal show this past weekend, it was fun! I wasn't sure what to expect so I thought I would show a table design that could be used for a wedding or other special event. I also wanted to pull all the pieces together from some favorite vendors.

The Bridal Affair was in Holland at the Midtown Center, it is the old Holland Public High School and they have redone most of the building and there is a fabulous banquet room on the second floor. The show was put on by Miss to Mrs Magazine (Lakeshore Edition) and they did a great job. The big excitement of the evening was the Dream Wedding giveaway, there were about 150 brides nominated for the giveaway and one very deserving bride was chosen. The package for the giveaway added up to about $14,000 worth of gifts and services. I donated my planning services as well and am looking forward to working with this bride and all the generous vendors in 2010.

Get To Know - Allison Bower, Makeup Artist

At the July MWEP meeting I was lucky enough to meet Allison Bower, a local make up artist. We traded cards and last week met for coffee. Allison came over with her adorable little girl, Baye, and we had such a nice morning just chatting.

Allison has an amazing eye for color and detail. When you talk with Allison you can just tell that she has a passion for what she does. It is always so refreshing to meet people in the industry that love what they do and that comes across in their work.

Here are a few questions I asked Allison so that you can get to know her a little better.

What type of services do you offer?

I do makeup application for weddings, photo shoots, television, theater, etc.

How long have you been in the makeup industry and where are you located?

I have been doing makeup all my life but I decided to start my own business a year ago.

What type of clients do you like to work with (traditional, modern, etc.)?

I work largely with models, brides, photographers and shop owners. I enjoy working with people who are fun and innovative.

Is there anything within your business that you specialize in?

Makeup for weddings and fashion.

What do you think sets you apart from other vendors in the industry?

It’s difficult to draw a comparison between me and other artists. From what I’ve seen, there are some talented local artists. I believe fully in my training, technique and collaborative efforts with clients and vendors. I’m considerate of other people’s time and efforts and always follow through on my word.

When you’re not busy working, how do you like to spend your downtime?

I have three young children who are 8, 6, and 4. I also have a fantastic husband. I love to be with them when I am not working. Even doing little events like going to pumpkin patches, nature walks, or going to the zoo gets me excited.

What is one crazy story of something that has happened while you were working?

I had a photographer who had to reschedule shortly before a fashion shoot. I had to find a different photographer in short order to work with five models. I had to sift through 70 emails from photographers and pick the best one (this was early in my career and I didn’t have an established list of preferred photographers). In the end, an amazing photographer committed to the shoot and the results were fantastic. Out of courtesy, I did write all the other photographers back, too.

DIY Place Card Board

I needed a quick, easy and inexpensive way to display place cards for a wedding. But, of course, I also wanted it to be really cute. So this is what I did...

The board is a piece of foam board, purchased at Walgreens for $4. This particular one is 22X28 and fit 45 standard sized place cards, so depending on the number of guests you may need multiple boards. The ribbon was from Walmart and was $1.47 a roll and I used about 1.5 rolls.

Step 1: I figured out how many cards I could fit across (five) and so I knew I needed 9 rows. To keep good spacing I measured out every 3 inches and used a pencil to mark the spot.

Step 2: Lay your ribbon across leaving about an inch and a half on each side. You can prepare ahead and cut all the ribbon at once.

Step 3: Flip the board over. Wrap the ribbon edges around the back side of the board and tape on one end. I used black electrical tape so that it wouldn't show up against the black board. Before you tape the other end of the ribbon make sure to pull it very tight, to remove any slack in the ribbon, then tape that end.

Step 4: Continue taping the ribbons down the board, following your measured out pencil marks
to ensure each line is straight.

Step 5: Place the cards tented over the ribbon in alphabetical order and VOILA!!!

Less than 30 minutes and under $8 and I had an adorable board that received many compliments! I set the board on an easel but thought a metal book stand on a table would be cute too, especially if you need more than one board.

Stacy & TJ - Reception 09-12-09

My sister in law was married in North Carolina in June. They had a very small intimate ceremony with only close friends and family. So wanting to celebrate more and party with more friends and family we decided to throw them a reception here in Michigan this past weekend.

My Mother in law and I planned the reception and it turned out just wonderful. The bride wasn't allowed to see the room before it was finished and upon arriving for the reception she was speechless! Almost to tears, it was perfect, just what I was hoping for.

For dinner we chose to do stations of hors d' oeuvres, both hot and cold. All the guests loved the idea and I heard many people say they had more than enough to eat. (of course, I didn't get pictures of the stations!)

DIY Petal Cones

I offered to run some errands and pick up some last minute items for a client and on the list were paper cones for the tossing rose petals. Easy enough I thought, I'll just go to Hobby Lobby or Michaels and pick some up. Ummm...nope! My mom and I were out one day and looked everywhere! We even started just looking for anything that we could make into cones, I was getting very frustrated. A couple of days later my mom called from the parking lot of Walmart saying "she thinks she found something that would work". Walmart carries a line of Wilton cake supplies including...10" white grease proof doilies with a lace like die cut edge. My mom is brilliant!!!

There are 10 doilies per package for $1.98, so out of one package you can get 20 cones. For this wedding we only needed 40 so it cost us under $4!

Step 1: Cut the doilies in half to make 20

Step 2: Roll each half into a cone shape, there is a smooth side and a rough side of the pattern, I rolled it with the rough side facing in. After a couple you will figure out the trick to getting the edges to line up.

Step 3: Tape or glue stick the edges, both inside and out. I used a small piece of double sided tape on the top corner where the pattern is because there isn't a lot to hold glue there.

Step 4: Fill with flower petals of your choice!
